At your service
Every message reaches the person who makes Avant Vous. The answers families ask for most are set out below, in the words the app itself uses.
A private line
It helps to mention
- Your phone or tablet, and its system version
- The version shown at the foot of Settings
- What you were doing, and what you saw
Please never send
- Your family’s details or photos
- A backup file, or its password
We never need them. Avant Vous keeps everything on your phone, and that is where it belongs.
Your family’s details
Where your family’s details are kept
Only on your phone, sealed with a key that never leaves it. There is no account and no server, so no one else can read them, not even us. It also means we cannot recover them for you: a backup is your own copy.
Moving to a new phone
On your current phone, open Settings and choose “Export a backup”, with a password you will remember. On the new phone, install Avant Vous, open Settings, choose “Restore from a backup” and enter the same password.
Keeping a backup somewhere safe
In Settings, choose “Export a backup” and a password only you will know, then choose where the sealed copy goes: your files, a cloud drive you trust, or a USB drive. Make a fresh one after important changes; Settings shows when the last one was made.
A forgotten backup password
No one can open a backup without its password, not even us. If the phone holding your family’s details is still with you, export a fresh backup with a new password.
If Avant Vous cannot open your saved details
If it offers “Try again”, tap it: the phone could not unlock them for a moment, and nothing is lost. Otherwise choose “Restore from a backup file” and open your most recent backup.
Privacy
Keeping the app private
In Settings, turn on “App lock”. Avant Vous then asks for Face ID, a fingerprint or your passcode when you return to it; choose how soon under “Lock after”.
If app lock will not stay on
App lock relies on your phone’s own passcode. Set one in the phone’s settings, then turn on “App lock” again.
Erasing everything
In Settings, choose “Erase all data”. Everything on this phone is deleted, with its key. Backups you exported are not affected.
Briefs
Preparing a brief
Choose “Prepare a brief”, then who it is for: a chef, a villa’s staff, a yacht’s crew. The brief is ready at once. “Share PDF” sends it as a document; “Share as images” sends one card per person, easy to read on a phone.
A brief in another language
On the brief, open “Options” and choose “Brief language”: English, French, Spanish, Italian or Arabic, whatever language the app itself is in.
What the small bronze marks mean
They show what has changed since the last brief you sent to the same team at the same place, so they see at once what is new. To leave them out, turn off “Mark what has changed” in “Options”.
Your purchase
One purchase, every device
Avant Vous is bought once, with no subscription. Install it again at no charge on any iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account, or any Android device signed in to the same Google Account. Your family’s details travel by backup, not with the purchase.
Refunds
Purchases are made through Apple or Google, so refunds are theirs to grant: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, or through Google Play. If something is not as it should be, write to us first; we would like to put it right.
How Avant Vous treats your information is set out in the privacy policy.
